Fish wrap or cage liner?

March 17th, 2009

The Seattle PI prints its last edition today and I’m not terribly torn up about it. I can’t jump on the bloggers vs print media bandwagon. I mean I see online and interactive news sources being more in touch and permits more alternative views.

You have to admit that no matter who supplies the news or information, there is always slant or opinion added or at least implied when being written or delivered. Online formats, from any source, typically permits community discussion, or at the very least, the ablity to quickly find or search for another version of the story, or more opinions and views.

Like never before, the consumer can research and investigate info supplied before, during and even post-consumption.

I’m sorry for those losing their jobs. Truly. However its simply a broad market shift. This is happening to all kinds of print media. Its more than bloggers and the random kid with a cellphone camera.

Not sure if its a dawning of a new age – but times they are a changing.
